The name Tesselight is derived from "tessellation," a term for the type of pattern created by repeatedly overlapping geometric shapes. Tesselights were inspired by an interest in the beauty that exists where geometry and nature intersect. The everyday materials from which they are made-- paper, thread, and wooden beads-- are meant to celebrate the simplicity of their form. They are entirely handcrafted; each of the many pieces of paper that comprise one lamp are cut, folded, and curled by hand. The paper pieces are grouped to form "flowers" and secured together with crochet thread and wooden beads. The flowers are then sewn together at their sides to create a spherical shape.
Tesselights are currently available in two styles: the Tri Tesselight and the Hex Pent Tesselight. Please click on the thumbnails at the bottom of the page to view images of both styles. The lamps range from 12" in diameter to 16" in diameter. They are available in any combination of three colors: white, ivory, and pale yellow. Custom orders are available at no additional charge. Please email for information on pricing or any other questions regarding Tesselights.
Tesselights are also on sale at Grand the Store in Union Square, Somerville.
