The Boston Shaker is the brainchild of owner Adam Lantheaume, who got into the business of slinging craft cocktail supplies after discovering how few products were available to the everyday consumer wanting to make great cocktails at home.  After gaining a strong following of bartenders and DIYers alike, Adam decided to expand into a storefront in the bustling Davis Square neighborhood of Somerville.  The space, previously a salon, needed to be gutted and completely renovated on an extremely tight budget.  Adam needed a creative way to display a variety of wares– stirrers, bitters and books, to name a few.  He also needed a functional bar area and plenty of open space to conduct his signature cocktail classes.  Most importantly, Adam wanted a space that felt warm and inviting, just like home.

To achieve this, we partnered with the very talented painting team Chromalab to bring texture to the walls and built-ins. We laid ledger board in the existing ceiling grid to continue that texture overhead.  Some creative manipulation of Ikea parts, along with the help of designer/carpenter Mike Hamilton, allowed us to furnish the space in a way that was both interesting and cost effective.

Since its grand opening this past February, The Boston Shaker has been seen in The Boston Globe, The Improper Bostonian, Urban Daddy, Details Magazine, and most recently in the Best of Boston 2010 edition of Boston Magazine, where the store has been crowned leader in the “Best Gifts for Him” category.
